Esther Jones|Conductor

Esther Jones is a conductor, adjudicator and workshop leader specialising in choral music, music education and singing, health & well-being.

Education

Esther studied Music at Oxford University and also held an organ scholarship at University College. She has a distinction in Choral Conducting from the Royal Academy of Music. Esther was the first Open Academy Fellow and is now an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.

Work

Esther works across the UK as a conductor, adjudicator and workshop leader. She is involved with a wide range of choirs: youth, amateur and professional. She offers CPD sessions for singing leaders in music hubs and schools and private tuition to choral conductors. She has published numerous choral arrangements and released recordings on CD and digital formats. Recently she has become involved in research on singing, health and well-being.

Esther is an Associate Principal Conductor of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain (https://www.nycgb.org.uk/esther-jones) and Tutor at the Royal Academy of Music (https://www.ram.ac.uk/about-us/staff/esther-jones). She has been Acting Artistic Director of London Youth Choir (https://www.londonyouthchoir.com) and was a collaborator and project leader for the UCL Created Out of Mind residency at the Wellcome Collection (http://www.createdoutofmind.org) – a research and public engagement project on dementia and the arts. She has appeared on Gareth Malone’s TV series The Choir: Sing while you work programme as a tutor, and as a reviewer on BBC Radio 3’s CD Review programme. She has directed music in live broadcasts on BBC Radio 1, 3 & 4 and performed in major concert halls across the UK. She is a Trustee of Music24 (https://www.music24.org.uk/#introduction), a charity that offers music therapy to the socially isolated and vulnerable, and is on the editorial board of the Choral Directions Research Journal (https://www.abcd.org.uk/journals).
